Additional learning support
At Mudgee Public School, we make sure every student is ready to learn. We provide support for students with disability or additional learning needs, helping them participate fully in all areas of school life. A formal diagnosis is not required—support can start at any stage of your child’s schooling.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students benefit from extra support to feel confident and achieve their best at school. We work closely with families to create support plans and make adjustments tailored to each child’s needs.
Additional learning support may include:
- Collaboration between teachers, support staff, families, and students (when needed)
- Specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- Tailored programs for high potential and gifted students to meet advanced learning needs
- Small group tutoring for targeted literacy and numeracy support
- Regular check-ins to review and update support plans
Classroom adjustments can include:
- Accessible learning spaces
- Assistive technology
- Instructional resources or guidance tailored to the student
- Adjusted lesson focus, simpler content, or extra guidance
Assessment adjustments may include:
- Additional time
- Simplified language
- Breaks during tasks
- Alternative ways to complete tasks (e.g., oral presentations instead of written work)
We identify when a student may need help by:
- Observing changes in learning or behaviour
- Reviewing assessment results and learning progress
- Responding to concerns raised by parents or carers
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
